12 Korean Celebrities Who Openly Support The #MeToo Movement

The #MeToo movement is making waves in Korea!

1. Amber

f(x)’s Amber was actually one of the first supporters of the #MeToo movement in Korea. She posted in support of the movement on her Instagram last October and has been supporting the movement ever since.

 

2. Kim Tae Ri

“The Handmaiden” star may be a relatively new name, but she is utilizing her platform to make sure her voice is heard. Actress Kim Tae Ri went on JTBC‘s Newsroom where she showed full support for the #MeToo movement.

“The reason that victims are able to speak publicly about the issue is probably because they want to prevent future victims. I hope this movement can improve society.” — Kim Tae Ri

 

3. Uee

Formerly a member of the disbanded girl group After School, Uee has been busy acting in such dramas as My Husband Oh Jak-doo, Manhole, and Marriage Contract. The singer-turned-actress was vocally showing support to the #MeToo movement at the press conference for her drama My Husband Oh Jak-doo.

4. Lee Soon Jae

Lee Soon Jae is an 82-year-old actor who has had a very prestigious career on both the small and big screens. With 62 years of experience under his belt, the veteran actor had an opportunity to share his thoughts on the #MeToo movement during an interview.

“Through the ‘MeToo’ movement, I just reflected on myself. I wondered, have I ever caused an inappropriate situation? I have to treat people like human beings. I can’t think that I can do whatever I want to my students. This is an opportunity for us to reflect as a society.” — Lee Soon Jae

 

5. Kim Nam Joo

With various Daesang Awards to her name, Kim Nam Joo is a highly respected TV and film actress. At a recent press conference for her JTBC drama, Misty, Kim wore a black suit in support of the #MeToo movement.

“I hope that we can listen to the victims that spoke out bravely. I also hope that the entertainment industry will clean out the rotten parts through this opportunity.” — Kim Nam Joo

 

6. Lee Joo Young

Lee Joo Young is a rising star who has starred in works like movie “A Quiet Dream,” and drama Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo. The actress recently posted on her Instagram in support of the #MeToo movement.

“Some of my colleagues and acquaintances are victims. I look back, and I was silent despite being filled with rage from seeing and hearing the news up close. Art is not an excuse for crime. Dreams were always weaker than power, but things are changing. This change is not just a trend that will go away, but will continue to burn. I’m ashamed, so I can’t say that I am supporting or cheering. Instead, I will go along. I will be as alert and awake as possible.” — Lee Joo Young

 

7. Shin So Yul

Most known for her role as Yoojung in Reply 1997, Shin So Yul is an actress with 12 years experience, and countless TV and movie credits. She has posted on various social media outlets in support of the #MeToo movement.

8. Kim Ji Woo

TV and film actress Kim Ji Woo has been in the industry since she was 17 years old. Known for her roles in TV sitcom Nonstop 5, and film ” Marrying the Mafia 4,” the 36-year-old posted a message of support on her personal Instagram account.

“As a mother raising a daughter, and as an ‘adult,’ we cannot live in a world where we get used to these incidents.  These people are loved by somebody as a mother, daughter, sister, family.” — Kim Ji Woo

 

9. Choi Hee Seo

Deemed the Best New Actress of 2017, Choi Hee Seo has starred in such popular films as “Dongju: The Portrait of a Poet,” and “Anarchist From Colony.” Choi has shown support for the #MeToo movement through various social media posts.

“I cannot change the world with a few letters written on the palm of my hand, but small, powerful waves have led to a Blue House National Petition, and press conferences. I would like to be part of the movement, so I am writing this now.” — Choi Hee Seo

 

10. Kim Kkot Bi

Actress Kim Kkot Bi has been active since 2002, starring in movies like “Beaten Black and Blue,” and “Kundo: Age of the Rampant.” To show support for the #MeToo movement, the star was featured on a special corner on SBS News sharing her thoughts on the matter.

11. Kim Ok Bin

Kim Ok Bin is an award-winning actress known for her roles in such films as “Thirst,” “Over My Dead Body,” and “The Villainess.” The star was seen showing support to the #MeToo movement through her Instagram, utilizing the “#with you” hashtag.

12. Park Hye Kyung

Park Hye Kyung is a veteran singer who has been in the industry for over 20 years. Originally debuting as a member of the group The The in 1997, she made her jump into the solo category in 1999. Since then, she has become one of the top female artists of Korea. The singer recently showed support to the #MeToo movement by posting on her personal blog.

“How did the victims who suffered terrible things endure on their own? They were unable to call for help or report to anyone, they must have been so scared. I have never been a victim of sexual abuse, but I have experience horrible things during in my life. They happened long ago, but the memory is still vivid. Pretending like I did not see those actions make me so embarrassed.” — Park Hye Kyung
