Dream ON: 10 Things You Might Have Missed In BTS’s New TinyTAN Animation

Tiny details, symbolism, and more.

On January 15, BTS released a heartwarming TinyTAN animation called Dream ON. This video is filled with touching moments and tiny details that could be missed the first time around. Here are 10 of them!

1. “Whalien 52”

The animation begins with the girl wearing a shirt with a whale on it. This references “Whalien 52”, a BTS song about “the loneliest whale in the world”, the 52-hertz whale. Other whales are unable to hear its voice because of its unusually high frequency.

A flying kiss from TinyTAN magically awakens the whale when they respond to its unheard call. The message? You never walk alone.

2. “Spring Day”

This scene may remind some fans of the train scenes from BTS’s “Spring Day” MV.

This day is ending, but a new, better one is on the horizon.

3. Her dream

The girl’s room features many music references, suggesting she wants to become a pianist. One of the books on her desk shelf is called Something to Sing About. It could be referring to a 1937 film of the same name. The movie is about a bandleader with big Hollywood dreams.

4. Quaver rest

A quaver rest is shaped like the number seven, which is a significant number for BTS. The group has seven members, and they celebrated their seventh anniversary last year. Interestingly, another name for a quaver rest is “eighth rest”; this could imply that ARMY is the eighth member of BTS.

5. A new start

The clock changes to 12:00 AM, signifying the beginning of a new day. It also references BTS’s song “0:00 (Zero O’Clock)”.

6. “Hope Right Here”

As the girl flies through the night with TinyTAN, a billboard flashes the words, “hope right here”. This is something J-Hope says to announce his arrival and spread positivity at the same time. It’s also a visual reference to his solo MV for “Outro: EGO”.

7. “Moon” and “Magic Shop”

On one poster, and in a later scene, a full moon is pictured. This could be a reference to Jin’s solo “Moon”, a love song to ARMY: “You are my Earth / To you I am just a moon”.

TinyTAN arrives through a magical door — a reference to the song “Magic Shop”.

Let’s make a door in your heart
Open the door and this place will await
It’s okay to believe, the Magic Shop will comfort you

— “Magic Shop” lyrics (English translation)

8. Borahae

Borahae or “I purple you” is a phrase invented to tell fans how much BTS loves ARMY. The main character is literally transformed by TinyTAN’s love and support when she wears this purple dress.

9. “Mikrokosmos” and “Heartbeat”

The girl, an aspiring pianist, performs while surrounded by stars that resemble ARMY bombs at BTS’s concerts.

The scene is very similar to this one from “Heartbeat” MV.

In this moment, TinyTAN encourages her to “shine, dream, smile” like the lyrics of “Mikrokosmos” say, in a “you-niverse” created by TinyTAN and fellow ARMYs.

10. BE

Parts of the animation match lyrics from BTS’s latest album, BE. For example, from “Life Goes On”, the girl flies with TinyTAN through the city, “like an arrow in the blue sky”…

…and TinyTAN appears, “on my pillow, on my table”.

TinyTAN’s arrival adds color to the girl’s “Blue & Grey” world…

…and, as the lyrics of “Fly to My Room” say, “get me outta my blues and now I’m feelin’ brand new.”
