The “Song Of The Year” (SOTY) award at the Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) is one of the most prestigious Daesang a group could get. With the end of the decade looming new, here are all the songs that received this award, from 2010-2019!

 

1) Miss A- “Bad Girl Good Girl”

When Miss A‘s “Bad Girl Good Girl” was released on July 1, 2010, it was an instant hit, topping the Gaon chart, and immediately put Miss A on the map! As one of the strongest rookies that year, it came as no surprise when it took home the “Song of the Year” award!

 

2) 2NE1 – “I Am The Best”

2011

 

2NE1, known as one of the strongest girl groups of the second generation, continued to deliver bops with the release of “I Am The Best”. Debuting at No. 4 on the Gaon chart, within the week it rose to no. 1, and became the group’s 4th single to top the Gaon chart. At the 2011 MAMA, it took home the well-deserved SOTY award!

 

3) PSY- “Gangnam Style”

2012

 

PSY‘s “Gangnam Style”, released on July 15, 2012, soon became one of K-Pop’s most well-known songs, and became the first MV to hit 1 billion views on YouTube! In 2012, it won the SOTY award, and rightfully so!

 

 

4) Cho Young Pil- “Bounce”

2013

 

Cho Yong Pil, considered to be one of Korea’s most influential musicians, has a long-standing career that’s spanned 50 years! In 2013, he released his 19th album titled Hello, and released two singles, “Hello” and “Bounce”. Of the two, it was “Bounce” that took home the SOTY award in 2013!

 

5) Taeyang- “Eyes, Nose, Lips”

2014

 

Taeyang‘s “Eyes, Nose, Lips”, was the second single and titular track of his second studio album, Rise. The song was a commercial success and received universal acclaim, and unanimous applause when it snagged the SOTY award in 2014!

 

6) BIGBANG- “BANG BANG BANG”

2015

 

BIGBANG‘s “BANG BANG BANG” was released as their title track from their second single album A. The album itself was a part of a four-album series, MADE, and achieved critical success, having the highest first-week of sales by a group in 2015! It proceeded to win many awards throughout the year, including the much-coveted SOTY award!

 

7) TWICE- “Cheer Up”

2016

 

From 2016, with “Cheer Up”, began TWICE‘s SOTY Daesang legacy. “Cheer Up”, released as the group’s first comeback album, Page Two, was an instant success. The music video went viral almost instantly, with 400,000 views a mere 30 minutes of its release! When the year-end award shows rolled around, TWICE managed to snag their first SOTY award as rookies!

 

8) TWICE- “Signal”

2017

 

In 2017, TWICE won another SOTY Daesang for their song, “Signal”, from the EP of the same name. “Signal” debuted at no. 1 on Gaon’s Digital Chart for two consecutive weeks, and debuted at no. 4 on Billboard Japan Hot 100. With this award, TWICE maintained their SOTY legacy for 2 years!

 

9) TWICE- “What Is Love”

2018

 

In 2018, TWICE released their “What Is Love” album, and the also released the title track of the same name. “What Is Love” debuted at no.1 on the Gaon’s Digital Chart and Billboard Korea’s Hot 100 chart, and was TWICE’s third consecutive song to receive Platinum Certification from the Korea Music Content Association (KMCA). That same year, TWICE received their third consecutive SOTY Daesang at 2018 MAMA!

 

10) BTS- “Boy With Luv”

2019

 

BTS‘s “Boy With Luv”, features American singer Halsey and was released on April 12, 2019. Throughout the year, the song has garnered praise and won many awards, also titles such as being the most viewed online music video in 24 hours, reaching 74.6 million views in 24 hours. Certified Platinum by the RIAA, it came as no surprise when it won SOTY at the 2019 MAMA!
