10 Times Idols *Literally* Had No Lines In Their Songs

Some of these take bad line distribution to the next level.

Line distributions have long been a point of contention among K-Pop fans, with many frustrated that their favorite members don’t get to sing or rap enough on their tracks. But while hearing your bias get just a few seconds of studio time on a song is bad, it could be worse—these ten idols once had no lines at all—literally.

1. Joy (Red Velvet)

Joy had zero lines in Red Velvet’s “Would U,” a single released under the SM Station project, while Wendy and Seulgi led the line distribution. It appears that Joy was unable to record the song because she was filming her debut K-Drama, tvN‘s The Liar and His Lover.

2. Jeonghan (SEVENTEEN)

Jeonghan had zero lines in the original recording of SEVENTEEN’s debut title track “Adore U” from their 2015 mini-album 17 CARAT, while Woozi and DK led the line distribution. Jeonghan was reportedly unwell during the recording period.

3. Jun & The8 (SEVENTEEN)

Jun and The8 had zero lines in SEVENTEEN’s “No F.U.N” from their 2016 repackage album Love&Letter, while DK and Seungkwan led the line distribution.

4. Moonbyul (MAMAMOO)

Moonbyul had zero lines in MAMAMOO’s “Sting” from their 2015 mini-album Pink Funky. It appears that this song was intended to be a vocal line song, leaving rapper Moonbyul with no lines.

5. Sehun (EXO)

Sehun had zero lines in EXO’s “What If” from their 2015 album EXODUS, while D.O and Baekhyun led the line distribution.

6. Cheng Xiao (WJSN)

Cheng Xiao had zero lines in WJSN’s “Catch Me” from their 2016 debut mini-album Would You Like, while Dawon and Dayoung led the line distribution. Cheng Xiao reportedly didn’t sing on the track because she didn’t feel strong in her Korean skills at the time, but her flip in the choreography is considered one of the most memorable aspects of the song.

7. Rachel (APRIL)

Rachel had zero lines in APRIL’s “April Story” from their 2017 album Prelude, though some say she leads one of the group sections. Chaewon and Jinsol led the line distribution.

8. Soul (P1HARMONY)

Soul had zero lines in P1HARMONY’s “Nemonade” and “That’s It” from their 2020 debut mini-album Disharmony: Stand Out. It’s believed that Soul didn’t sing on the tracks because his Korean skills were still developing.

9. Seolhyun (AOA)

Seolhyun had zero lines in AOA’s debut title track “Elvis” from their debut single album Angels’ Story, while Jimin and Choa led the line distribution.

10. Chani & Hwiyoung (SF9)

Chani and Hwiyoung had zero lines in SF9’s “Jungle Game” from their 2017 mini-album Burning Sensation, while Inseong and Dawon led the line distribution.
