The members of aespa recently spilled on how they got into SM Entertainment, and Giselle‘s story had even labelmate Super Junior‘s Shindong impressed.
The group recently made a comeback with their new mini-album, titled Girls. As they begin promotions, the members are making appearances on different variety shows, including MBC‘s The Manager, where they showed off their spacious dorm (only for fans to hilariously suspect it’s WayV‘s old ‘haunted’ dorm).
Naturally, they also guested on Shindong’s YouTube channel. Shindong is one of their senior labelmates at SM Entertainment.
Shindong’s show features a concept where he is a director and his guests are potential clients. He hilariously asked that aespa first do a mini audition to be able to “earn” his services as a director.
Then, as he read the script, Shindong realized that Karina, NingNing, and Winter had all made it into SM Entertainment through casting. Giselle, on the other hand, got in through auditioning.
When Shindong asked her which audition she had done, Giselle revealed that she had gotten in through SM Entertainment’s famous (and infamously difficult) Saturday auditions. Shindong was taken by surprise, and commented, “Amazing.”
This makes Giselle one of only seven artists in the past twenty years to have debuted after passing SM Entertainment’s Saturday auditions. In a recent appearance on SBS‘s Dolsing Fourmen, the six other artists were listed as Girls’ Generation‘s Yoona, SHINee‘s Taemin, Red Velvet‘s Seulgi and Yeri, NCT‘s Jungwoo and Haechan, and Super Junior’s Heechul.

Fans have pointed out just how impressive this makes Giselle’s achievement, as the Saturday audition is open to the public and therefore that much harder to pass. The sheer amount of people auditioning makes the chances of passing very slim!
As one of four talented members, Giselle has really proven how much she deserves to be in aespa!
