BTS, aespa, And “Squid Game” Director Hwang Dong Hyuk Highlight CJ ENM’s “2021 Visionary” List

Congratulations to this year’s winners!

BTS and aespa highlight the six entertainment figures chosen by CJ ENM as their 2021 Visionaries for their contributions to the entertainment industry.

CJ ENM shared the six individuals selected as the 2021 Visionaries for their ability to lead the trends of the Korean entertainment industry and as pioneer figures who are leading change and innovation. Those 6 figures are BTS, aespa, Yoo Jae Suk, Yoon Yuh Jung, Street Woman Fighter PD Choi Jung Nam, and Squid Game director Hwang Dong Hyuk.

The theme for the 2021 edition of visionary was centered around a “Human Centric Metaverse”, an “Expanded Universe” where viewers were immersed in the content beyond the boundaries of space, time, virtual, or reality, “Hyper entertainmentism”, those who changed the definition of entertainment by completely breaking the existing formula used in the entertainment field, and “Empathy for coexistence”, realizing the value of being together during the pandemic.

Hwang Dong Hyuk was praised for his ability to give people around the world a feeling of joy and excitement, surpassing the boundaries of country, culture, and platform with his creation of the global sensation Squid Game.

Choi Jung Nam PD | Mnet

Choi Jung Nam PD was chosen for presenting a new vision and theme of street dance to the entertainment world through Street Woman Fighter. She also was able to impress Korea and the world with the true image of leadership and mentoring across generations through the genre of music and dance.

Yoon Yuh Jung | HOOK Entertainment

Yoon Yuh Jung was selected for her role in Minari, evoking the true values of mankind to people around the world through the movie.

Yoo Jae Suk | Baeksang Arts Awards

Yoo Jae Suk was selected once again, this time for his programs You Quiz on the BlockHangout with Yoo, and Sixth Sense 2, proving to be in irreplaceable figure on entertainment shows and leading trends in the variety industry.

aespa were selected for creating a new fandom culture through the introduction of their unique universe featuring avatar versions of themselves, breaking the previously set boundaries of fan culture and presenting a whole slew of new possibilities in the music industry.

Finally, BTS were selected for the second year in a row for their widespread influence, expanding their reach through their music and their actions.

In 2020, the CJ ENM visionaries were BTS, writer Kim Eun Hee, Kim Tae Ho PD, BLACKPINK, Rain, Song Kang Ho, Shin Won Ho PD, writer Park Ji Eun, Bong Joon Ho, actor Song Kang Ho, and Yoo Jae Suk.
