Here Are BTS Suga’s First Impressions Of The Coldplay Members

Their meeting was so moving!

When we look back on 2021 and remember the many great collaborations that came from it, one, in particular, comes to mind: BTS and Coldplay‘s “My Universe.”

For those involved in its creative process, it was especially memorable.

BTS’s Suga has had a lot of experience working with others, not just as a member of BTS but as a producer. For instance, he has collaborated multiple times with MAX, Juice WRLD, and even companies, such as Samsung.

So, he has experience working with foreign artists as well, and of all, Coldplay stands out because lead singer Chris Martin made an effort to come to them rather than the other way around. In Suga’s interview with Vogue Korea for BTS’s special edition feature, he opened up about the collaboration, revealing what it was like working with the British rock band and his first impressions of the members.

I was amazed when they offered to come to Korea… They said that when Coldplay does a collaboration, Chris Martin always comes in person to record. I was surprised that he was so keen.

Suga only had good things to say about all the Coldplay members, describing them in a way that one could only hope celebrities they admire would really be in real life.

All of them were humble, good-hearted, passionate and so very kind to us.

Coldplay and BTS have been able to form a genuine friendship out of this collaboration. And it seems that the reason why they get along so well is because there’s mutual respect as they both can see how they are more alike than different. Coldplay’s Chris Martin and Will Champion have even jumped to BTS’s defense when people have attempted to downplay the group’s career.

I realized that our experience and what Coldplay has been through for nearly 25 years were not so very different. The conversation took off as we compared our struggles.

Suga has met so many celebrities through his years working in the music industry now, and he has become quite skilled at discerning when someone is authentic or not. One has to master this skill of discernment when there are many clout-chasers swarming. So, it was great to meet Coldplay and realize that they were sincere about everything.

When I meet a star, I can tell whether they’re being sincere or not, and Coldplay were so sincere that we were deeply moved by them.

As a result, working with Coldplay was a memorable experience for the artists. It ultimately became a learning experience for all parties involved, and beautiful art and friendship were made.

We did a lot of melody dubbing while recording the rap sections, and their reactions were fantastic. You could feel it in the recording booth. When having a vocal directing session, I tend to be fairly straight-faced, without showing my reactions, as if I were missing half my soul. But it made me think that taking Coldplay’s approach might be a better way to bring out an artist’s potential.
