On April 20, Chung Ha released new concept photos and a teaser clip for her upcoming single, “Stay Tonight.”
Chung Ha’s styling is believed to have been inspired by Indian culture, and fan reactions to it have been mixed so far. Some fans are loving the look and take no issue with it, but others claim it falls under the umbrella of cultural appropriation.
chungha is wearing a maang tikka, an indian piece of jewellery on her head which has a lot of cultural and religious meaning to Indians. It’s not a fashion statement, and it’s not for a “concept”.

Although these fans don’t approve of the concept, they want other fans to know that they are not “cancelling” Chung Ha over it. Rather, they are seeking to educate Chung Ha, and others, about why they feel the images are problematic.
And yet again im gonna REPEAT: EDUCATING SOMEONE is not the same as CANCELLING them. I will always support Chungha & this does not reduce my love for her & her art. all I want is for her to know that maybe using our cultural items is not a great choice for this era & why

as a desi i’m not that offended, but still felt uncomfortable to see a non-desi wearing this. @CHUNGHA_MNHent idk if you chose to wear it or not, but i ask that you & your staff get educated bc this is cultural appropriation & it’s offensive to desi people pic.twitter.com/ncNCs39UWJ

We all love Chungha and this is not attacking her. Desis are just tired and fed up because not only are ppl ignorant about cultural appropriation ( or racism) when it happens to us we are always told to shut up when we bring it up.
So plz atleast let us vent 🙁 https://t.co/oDLrF2LX1D

telling chungha and mnh what was done wrong here does not mean that you have to unstan. it doesn‘t mean you have to cancel her. tell her whats wrong so she can do better in the future pic.twitter.com/7KKC1G8t1C

Fans who are unoffended by Chung Ha’s concept are reminding others to respect the opinions of those who are offended, as it is a deeply sensitive topic.
if ur desi and ur not offended by chungha wearing the headpiece thats fine, if ur desi and u are offended by chungha wearing the headpiece thats fine.
But lets make this clear, if u are not desi, u dont have the right to forgive her, its not ur culture thats being appropriated.

as a desi Kpop stan, i didnt get offended by what chungha wore,I often view it as cultural appreciation when people from other cultures wear pieces or clothing from mine. That being said I dont speak for the community. pls dont cancel her, instead educate.

Rather than arguing among themself, these fans are encouraging their fandom to contact Chung Ha and her agency so that similar situations can be avoided in the future.
because of chungha's recent teasers, it's important we bring light to the issue and we are working with fanbases to send an email to MNH regarding the situation. byulharangs, let's not invalidate anyone's feelings towards this

please do not instigate a "witch hunt." i know cancel culture plagues the internet but at this point, the best way is to first inform and educate chungha and her agency. i heard fanbases are coordinating to create an email template to send to mnh.
