Red Velvet’s Delayed Irene & Seulgi Subunit Finally Has A Debut Date

Red Velvet – IRENE & SEULGI is coming sooner than you think!

Red Velvet fans were disheartened and angry last month when SM Entertainment announced that the highly anticipated Red Velvet – IRENE & SEULGI subunit would be delayed indefinitely. But today, after weeks of waiting, the company has finally announced the new debut date—and it’s sooner than you might think!

ReVeluvs had been speculating about the potential of a subunit between main dancer and lead vocalist Seulgi and the group’s main rapper and lead dancer Irene long before anything was announced. After both members were seen attending dance classes and shooting in cafés, fans’ suspicions were confirmed on April 21, when SM Entertainment put out a press release confirming the two would be debuting as a unit group.

From April 21, fans had a long wait to hear more about the upcoming subunit. Over a month later, on May 26, the company finally announced the name of the subunit and the name of the mini-album: Red Velvet – IRENE & SEULGI – Monster.

And ReVeluvs were overjoyed when the unit’s debut date was announced the next day: June 15. However, the fun didn’t last for long.

Just a few days after SM Entertainment revealed the supposed debut date, everything took a turn for the worst. In an announcement on fanclub app Lysn, the company announced that the debut would be postponed to some time in July. Very little information was given on the reason for the delay, leading fans to worry about when the subunit would actually come to fruition.

In order to work on the album a bit more, we have decided to delay the album release.

But today, two months after the initial announcement and almost a month single the delay, ReVeluvs’ prayers have been answered: according to the company’s statement on Lysn, Red Velvet – IRENE & SEULGI will debut with their mini-album Monster on Monday, July 6!

And Irene herself took to Lysn to reveal the date of the unit’s first debut stage: Friday, July 10 on KBS Music Bank.

Given that the new debut date is just 2 weeks from now, expect teaser photos to start dropping very shortly! If you want to get your hands on Monster as soon as possible, check Red Velvet’s social media for preorder links coming June 22 KST.
