SBS Variety Show Under Fire for Derogatory Caption in Most Recent Episode

The producers made an official apology on the show’s website.

SBS FunE’s Walgadak Beauty made a formal apology regarding the derogatory caption they inserted into their most recent episode.

The producers took to the show’s homepage to express,

We’d like to apologize for using the caption, ‘late Roh Moo excuse’ in yesterday’s broadcast. We realize that we’re responsible for failing to filter it out before broadcast, and we’d like to apologize for the inconvenience caused to late president Roh Moo Hyun’s family as well as our viewers.

They continued,

We’ve suspended the episode as well as related video clips on all services, and we’ll be sure to find out what led to the mistake and take appropriate measures. We will be more careful from now on so that this never happens ever again.

Ahead of the apology, cast member Jung Hyuk explained why he left a group chatroom joined by all of the cast. But at the same time, the caption, “Let’s hear that late Roh Moo excuse of yours” showed up on the screen.

The caption was a derogatory remark used by right-wing extremists, and it turned “Let’s hear that excuse of yours” to include late president Roh Moo Hyun in a demeaning manner.

As soon as the episode aired, viewers expressed their disapproval of the caption, leading to a controversy claiming the show belittled late president Roh Moo Hyun.

Walgadak Beauty is a variety show that covers various topics relating to beauty starring celebrities such as Hong Jin Young, Block B‘s Jaehyo, Kim Min Kyung, and more.
