Here’s why these colors suit them best.

Color theory experts Kim Chae Rin and Kim Ji Hyun guested on this week’s episode of AYO. They explained the concept of “personal colors” and gave their expert opinions on the most flattering colors on Red Velvet‘s Joy, BLACKPINK‘s Jennie, and AOA‘s Seolhyun.

Check them out below!

1. AOA’s Seolhyun

The first idol they discussed was AOA’s Seolhyun. According to Kim Ji Hyun, many people make the mistake of assuming she is warm-toned because she has tan skin.

For Seolhyun, many people say she’s warm-toned because she has tan skin, so I looked up her photoshoots and it seemed that warm colors didn’t actually match up with her face.

Kim Chae Rin then named several other celebrities who are cool-toned, such as Girls’ Generation‘s Taeyeon and EXO‘s Baekhyun.

2. Red Velvet’s Joy

Joy was the next big name to be mentioned in the video. The color theory experts were all-praise for her, lauding her versatility and ability to match any color.

Red Velvet’s Joy has a very fruity and refreshing image, so they tend to style her with high chroma colors. In fact, any color would suit her perfectly.

When it came down to it, however, they chose pastel colors over the rest: “But the best color on her is actually pastel colors. It’s our personal expert opinion“.

3. BLACKPINK’s Jennie

Last but not the least, they identified the best colors on BLACKPINK’s Jennie, noting how black and white aren’t as suitable on her as gray.

If we compare gray and black outfits, the black one looks more shady and disconnected. White looks bright but it’s contrasted with her skin tone, so it doesn’t feel natural. Gray looks very stable. I think mid-brightness suits her the best.

Afterwards, they analyzed high chroma outfits on Jennie. While some people may feel as if bright colors look best, Kim Chae Rin believes it’s more a case of the clothes wearing Jennie instead of Jennie wearing the clothes.

For high chroma outfit, your eyes go to the clothes first before her face. Of course, since the chroma is high, you might feel like ‘Wow, she stands out! Pretty! Fancy!‘ But it actually feels like ‘Oh…she’s wearing those clothes‘.

They ended by giving their final diagnosis for Jennie.

It’s our personal expert opinion that low chroma colors are better than high ones. Therefore, I think Jennie’s best outfit is mid-brightness, mid chroma, and beige. Overall, it all blends in. I’m guessing Jennie’s personal colors is fall-muted.
