South Korea reports no new MERS case for nearly a week

The MERS outbreak in South Korea seems to finally be slowing down.

Since the serious MERS outbreak which began at the end of May in South Korea infecting 186 people and killing 36 patients, no new MERS case has been reported in the last six days.

Unfortunately, according to the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the 186 people confirmed with MERS and their condition remains unchanged. They add, however, that South  Korea may finally be able to announce the end of the virus outbreak should there be no more additional confirmed cases.

Following the start of the outbreak in May, there have been approximately 16,700 placed into isolation to prevent the possible spread of the infection to others. So far, 16,168 have been released from their 14-day quarantine leaving 513 still isolated.
