JYP Entertainment has announced that Wonder Girls will be officially disbanding through a statement released to media and a surprise final M/V on their YouTube.
On January 26, JYP Entertainment uploaded a video titled, “THANK YOU FOR BEING SO WONDERFUL” to their YouTube Channel with clips highlighting some of the best moments of Wonder Girls.
The group has also announced through a press release that they will officially be disbanding and releasing a final goodbye song. This is similar to how 2NE1 said goodbye to their fans after announcing their disbandment.
After initial reports broke out in December that Wonder Girls’ contracts with JYP were set to expire soon, fans began growing worried for the future of the group. However, JYP Entertainment said the group were still under negotiations and nothing was decided as of January 12.
Insiders then began leaking information that the group would be leaving JYP Entertainment in February. These rumors have now been confirmed.
Here’s JYP Enteratinment’s statement, translated by Koreaboo revealing that Wonder Girls will be disbanding:
We are here to announce the disbandment of the group that has been always with us for the last ten years, Wonder Girls.
The members have talked amongst themselves and with the company for a long time and the [girls] decided to disband.
Yubin and Hyelim have renewed their contracts with JYP Entertainment and will continue their activities in music and acting as well as other fields.
Yeeun and Sunmi have decided to pave a new path for themselves and have regretfully decided to leave the company.
As a thanks to all the fans who have been with them for 10 years, they have decided to release their last digital single on their 10th year anniversary, February 10th.
We would like to thank the fans of Wonder Girls all over the world who stuck by Wonder Girls in their 10 year-long journey, and promise to help and support both the members who are leaving and staying to help make their future better.
