BTS’s Jimin Confesses Why He Took Up Kendo When He Was A Kid, And The Reason Will Make You Say “Aaaw~”

This is guaranteed to make you love Jimin more.

Not all ARMYs are aware of this fact, but did you know that BTS‘s Jimin also known as “Park Mochi”…

has a history of training under the martial arts of kendo for 7-8 years?

If you didn’t know this before, you’re given a moment to let out a short gasp.

What is kendo, exactly? Here’s Jimin in action so you can have an idea what it is.

Kendo means “way of the sword” — in this practice, brute strength isn’t the only factor to come into play. You also need to focus on improving yourself and strengthening your spirit.

Kendo is a traditional Japanese martial art which descended from swordsmanship. This type of martial art uses bamboo swords and protective armor.

Looking at it, you would see that practicing kendo requires you to have a balance of physical and mental strength — which is why it’s impressive of Jimin to have trained under this for more than seven years when he was young!

BTS members are also familiar with Jimin’s background. When the group was asked what they would do if they weren’t in BTS, Jungkook answered for Jimin by saying “Geomdo!” which is a modern Korean martial art derived from Japanese kendo.

Why did Jimin think of pursuing kendo when he was a kid?

When I was a kid, I loved the anime One Piece a lot.

– Jimin

The answer lies in his love for anime.

There was a character named “Zoro”, he looked so cool for me.

– Jimin

Can you imagine cute, young Jimin coming up to his mom and telling her that he’d be the best swordsman ever?

So I told my mom, “I want to be the best swordsman in the world!”

– Jimin

He started for a seemingly trivial reason, but you can sense his commitment to this martial art. After all, he did it for almost a decade!

And so, I’ve learned kendo for around 7-8 years.

Aside from Jimin’s outstanding background in dance, it’s also safe to say that his amazing precision when dancing can be traced back to his training days when he was practicing this Japanese martial art.

ARMYs sure are fortunate to stan a multi-talented king!
