Kim Heechul Says Malicious Netizens Forced Him to Make All His Donations Public

He used to make donations in secret, but he can’t do that anymore.

On a recent episode of JTBC’s Love of 7.7 Billion, the panel discussed donations in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.

But the revelation that grabbed viewers’ attention was Kim Heechul‘s claim that malicious netizens forced him to make all his donations public.

Kim Heechul shared a story about when he secretly made a donation to help the forest fires in Gangwon Province, and how he had no choice but to make it public due to the netizens’ response.

I made a donation last year during the forest fires in Gangwon Province. I hate being praised by everyone, so I did it in secret, but I got a call from my agency. I was getting cussed out on the internet for not making a donation when all the other celebrities were. So my agency had no choice but to make the announcement.

– Kim Heechul

Kim Heechul explained that making donations as a celebrity has become a “wits game” and that celebrities become targets if they make the donation a little late.

I don’t know when it started, but donation has become a wits game. And if you make your donation late, you end up becoming a target of a witch hunt.

He then clarified that malicious netizens are the ones putting celebrities in a donation war.

If you make a donation, they critcize you for ‘finally’ making a donation. I think they’re the ones putting us at a war of how much we donate.

Regarding this issue, the German broadcaster, Daniel added, “When I got into a taxi, the driver suddenly said, ‘I don’t think Jun Ji Hyun is making a donation’, and I was surprised. I felt like he was trying to force celebrities to donate.

In response, Shin Dong Yup clarified, “Jun Ji Hyun makes all her donations in secret.

In response, netizens are leaving comments such as “People are so nosy” and “Stars must have such a hard time because of this“.
