How NCT’s Yuta Used His Skills As A K-Pop Idol For His Acting Debut

There was one part of being an idol that really helped him.

NCT‘s Yuta surprised fans by announcing his acting debut in the upcoming Japanese movie HiGH&LOW THE WORST X, alongside stars such as idol Kazuma Kawamura from the Japanese group THE RAMPAGE.

Although the movie is slated for release in September, Yuta gave a behind-the-scenes peek at filming for the Japanese magazine MEN’S NON-NO. The interviewer asked Yuta if his experience as a K-Pop idol was “useful for the acting” in the movie.

While he’s gained many skills as a singer, Yuta revealed that one skill, in particular, made acting much easier. The director of the film and actor Goki Maeda praised Yuta for his control over his voice. There was a reason why it was such a valuable skill.

Oh, there was one thing for sure! Both Goki-kun (Maeda) and the director praised me for it: my loud voice.

The actors and staff on set revealed that it was common for new actors to be shy in front of the camera and not be able to project their voices properly. Yuta didn’t need any time to adjust since he’d already learned the skill.

Apparently, newcomers to acting have a hard time speaking loudly into the camera. I had to speak loudly among one hundred others, and they said, ‘Most people need time before they can do that.’

There was another part of being an idol that helped Yuta smoothly transition into acting. Since acting is about doing things you wouldn’t normally do in front of a camera, Yuta already had experience from the many shows and stages he’s been on.

They also said, ‘The whole point of being an actor is to show off just how much you can do embarrassing things in front of the camera, so it’s pretty incredible!’

But then, of course, I’m always raising my voice on stage. So, I guess I can say I was able to apply that for sure!
