This retro color trend is the latest new look for K-Pop music videos

An emerging trend regarding the colors used in recently released K-Pop music videos has been discovered and it is visually stunning.

In more of the recent music videos, a certain style of pastel tones in bright colors alongside neon combinations has been seen.

These colors are distinct and striking, giving off an evocative, retro ’80s vibe with a modern twist.

The main purpose of this style is putting the focus on the colors and design rather than having a music video that has a clear narrative plot.

Take a look below at a few recent music videos that have this style.

HIGHLIGHT – “Plz Don’t Be Sad”

“Plz Don’t Be Sad” was released on March 21, 2017. From the beginning of the video, there is a clear use of distinct neon colors, which are seen in the background and center and a tinge of pastel in the suitcases. This strong use of neon gives off a darker vibe.

ZICO – “She’s a Baby”

“She’s a Baby” was released on April 13, 2017. Like the previous video above, “She’s a Baby” shows clear evidence of its style but this time, the style leans on the pastel side. The dominating colors are light and creamy but very eye-catching.

EXID – “Night Rather Than Day”

EXID released their latest comeback music video on April 9, 2017. The video can be considered a fusion of the first two videos above. The style has both neon and pastel colors but with no dominating side. The neon colors are distinct but with a stronger use of pastel, the video gives off a more dreamy vibe.

IU – “Palette”

“Palette” was released on April 21, 2017. The style is very similar to “She’s a Baby” since it leans on the side of lighter colors. Throughout the video, the still is mostly a light background with a contrasting color here and there but in the end, stronger colors start to emerge. But these colors are still pastel.
